12 Sons of Jacob

Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Nephtali, Dan, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zabulon, Joseph, & Benjamin.

These are Israelites as they were in the beginning; these are the 12 sons of Jacob; in the beginning the 12 tribes were one house… the House of Jacob (Israel), the first-born male of each tribe was given as the priest for that tribe.

The Levites were eventually taken aside for temple service and no longer counted as one of the 12 tribes but substitutes for the First Born of the Israelites who had in the past been who served as priests. Manasseh and Ephraim became the protogeny of the two tribes that could come to represent the tribe of Joseph. Manasseh the first-born and Ephraim the last; Manasseh would be less than Ephraim who would become many nations.

Death of Solomon

After the death of Solomon, the Israelites split into two kingdoms. Judah and Benjamin formed the southern kingdom of “Judah” with their capital at Jerusalem, while the other ten tribes formed the northern kingdom of “Israel” with their capital at Samaria.

These are the tribes sealed in Revelation. (Below)

Note that Joseph replaces Ephraim in this protection during the tribulation. Ephraim led the division of the kingdom and the 10 tribes into Idolatry. For this they are not sealed in the tribulation, but are still given an inheritance in the millennial kingdom. Dan who was the first tribe to enter into idolatry is also not sealed through the tribulation but receives an inheritance in the millennium.

  • ¨      Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Asher were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Nephtali were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Manassas were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand.
  • ¨      Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

Allegory

  • ¨      The True Church- possesses the temple, which is now their born again, bodies, which they are responsible to keep holy

  • ¨      The True Church- carries the Ark as the Spirit of God dwells in them

  • ¨      The True Church – is set aside for temple service through adoption into the tribe of Judah the tribe of the King and the High Priest
  • ¨      The Levites- left all their possessions in a show of loyalty to the King of Judah, who was David.
  • ¨      The True Church- gives everything in loyalty to the King of Judah, who is Christ
  • ¨      The Levites- avoided the slavery suffered by the others during the period of the Egyptian bondage, by maintaining their              separateness in the land of Goshen immersed in the tents of learning, and maintaining the spiritual tradition of the Fathers.
  • ¨      The True Church- avoids slavery to Bondage to sin by maintaining their separateness in the Land of the Kingdom as citizens of heaven
  • ¨      The Levites- were Israelites, were priests… All Priests were Israelite and Levites, but not all Levites were priests, only those Levites (whose inheritance came through) the line of Aaron and Moses (the deliverer) were priests.
  • ¨      The True Church- is priest through the line of the deliverer Christ, and is like the Levites also Israelites;

This is not to show that Christians are the (spiritual Levites) NO NOT AT ALL. But to show the picture of the priests to come. The Levites are an allegory of the Church. Not as keepers of the Law like the Levites, but as of the order of Melchizedek.

  • ¨      Melchizedek gave free gift of bread and wine to Abraham; and Abraham paid tribute to in first fruit of his labor/spoils
  • ¨      Christ gave free gift of wine and bread to the 12, and blood and water to us and we give tribute to Christ with the sacrifice of our living bodies
  • ¨      Malchizedek -King of righteousness, the king of Jerusalem, High priest of the One True God.

The typical significance of his history is set forth in detail in the Epistle to the Hebrews, [He 7:1-28] The apostle there points out the superiority of his priesthood to that of Aaron in these several respects:

  1. Even Abraham paid him tithes;
  2. He blessed Abraham;
  3. He is the type of a Priest who lives forever;
  4. Levi, yet unborn, paid him tithes in the person of Abraham;
  5. The permanence of his priesthood in Christ implied the abrogation of the Levitical system;
  6. He was made priest not without an oath; and
  7. His priesthood can neither be transmitted nor interrupted by death: “this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.”

The question as to whom this mysterious personage was has given rise to a great deal of modern speculation. It is an old tradition among the Jews that he was Shem, the son of Noah, who may have survived to this time.  Melchizedek was a Canaanitish prince, a worshipper of the true God, and in his peculiar history and character an instructive type of our Lord, the great High Priest  [Heb 5:6,7 6:20] One of the Amarna tablets is from Ebed-Tob, king of Jerusalem, the successor of Melchizedek, in which he claims the very attributes and dignity given to Melchizedek in the Epistle to the Hebrews.

Now look at the inheritance of the Priests and the Levites: Who are the sanctified son’s of Zadok? Zodak was the priest of the line of Aaron who was faithful to David; he had anointed Solomon. Zadok mean righteous; the priest of the line of Zadok are a type or allegory of the church.
