Sin and the Christian

Before the Law, sin was….

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

There is a recompense, reward, wage for sin…

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;

There are two deaths, the first death is the death of the flesh, or earthly body… the second death is the death of the spirit and will come when the world is judged

Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

We who are God’s Adopted born from above Children are already dead, though not yet manifest in the flesh.

We were crucified with Christ yet we live in the flesh for a time!

We died on the cross with Christ, and await our incorruptible bodies, with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, which is the first part, down payment of our inheritance, and the second death has no power over us.

This earth is not our home! We are already now citizens of heaven, running a race of life on earth

Before the Law, Man was saved by God’s grace… faithfulness and obedience was accounted to them as righteousness

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith

The Law gave us a knowledge of what sin is…..

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Under the Law, atonement was made for sin through sacrifice… but it was not the blood of bulls and goats that saved man; it has always been grace by faith … the doing of the law with a pure heart a symbol of faith that God is true to his word… by faith they were obedient and it was counted to them as righteousness. Hebrews 11 is a testament of this.

With the manifestation of Christ and His sacrifice, which was from the foundation of the world, the gentile was offered something that the Jew had had along, but only few understood. (Christ was the Ark of Noah, Christ was the lamb in the bush for Abraham, Christ was the rock in the desert from which living water flowed for the Israelite children, Christ was the Passover lamb that was slain in Egypt;) all of the Law and the Prophets spoke of Christ)

As believers in Christ and the power of his blood these things are ours with regard to sin.

Atonement -Romans 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

This word atonement is actually reconciliation. We are by the blood of Christ Reconciled to God, now children of His adoption.

Our account has been paid in full, balanced, reconciled… the debts and credits equaled.

Where the Law had established a system, by which sins were atoned for by sacrifice taken to God by the high priest, and if the sacrifice was accepted, the faithful had their slate wiped clean from year to year…. now comes Christ who makes atonement for us… not as the high priest from the line of Aaron, but as the High Priest of the order of Melchizidek, and not from year to year… but once and for all.

Forgiveness-Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Forgiveness is the freedom from bondage to sin; We have the power to walk in Spirit… to no longer serve sin, but serve God.

Redemption – Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Redemption is Christ payment for the wages of our sin; we are blood bought. Our ransom was paid and we have freedom from sin’s penalty of death

Cleansing- 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Not only does Christ forgive our sins but cleans us from unrighteousness, purifies us, washes us,

SIN IS NOT IMPUTED AS SIN TO THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST.
For those who believe in Christ, sin has no more power!
Romans 5:13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

We are already dead in sin;

Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

WE were crucified with Christ

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

and now it is NOT us who lives but Christ who lives in us.

Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our flesh is already dead to sin NOW, but not yet physically manifest (we will die an earthly death or we will be physically changed)

1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

WHO IS BORN OF GOD DOES NOT COMMITT SIN!

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 3:9 every one who hath been begotten of God, sin he doth not, because his seed in him doth remain, and he is not able to sin, because of God he hath been begotten.

How can it be that the born of God does not sin, and yet sin dwells in our mortal bodies? Because our Spirit is born of God, God’s seed remains in us! We are of our Heavenly Father and do not sin. We are no longer children of the devil.

Romans 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

If you do not sin, if it is not you who sins, when sin happens in your flesh, then how can you loose salvation for sin?

Sin in the members of a believer is works, just as good works are works… both come with a recompense, wage, price.

BUT FOR THE SIN IN OUR MEMBERS: WE WILL RECEIVE THE PENALTY OF DEATH OF OUR MEMBERS! IN fact, it is already done… not yet made manifest!

The penalty of sin, which is death of our soul, (the second death) was paid once and for all by Christ. The works of sin in the members of a believer will burn up!

You will be judged for your works…. you will receive reward (recompense, wages) for that work at the Bema seat of Christ.

Some of our works will burn, some will remain, but we will be saved even though by fire.

This is why we are to store up treasures in heaven… we are to store up rewards that last , works that stand.

This is not a license to sin. We are called to walk in the spirit not in the flesh, to be holy as he is holy, to come out of the world and be separate, to crucify our flesh daily, to repent of sin, the turn from sin, to confess our sin….

When we try to impute sin where God does not impute sin… we try to again crucify Christ, and there is no more sacrifice for sin! Thus, we place ourselves under the law, and indeed we deny the very Christ we claim.

Galatians 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

What was destroyed???? The power of sin! bondage to sin; the penalty of sin

A transgressor of what? THE LAW

19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

The believer in Christ is already dead to the law; and alive unto God; We are not to try to resurrect our dead to sin bodies by regressing to the Law; when we do, we transgress the Law

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ…. We are saved grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ.

We were saved while we were still sinners, by God’s love, mercy and grace! Now that we are redeemed, we live because Christ lives in us.

We are no more adulterers, fornicators, liars, whoremongerers; we are the redeemed, adopted children of God, Joint heirs with Christ, Abraham’s children of Promise. Justified in Christ.

We should walk like it, because we are, and we can through HIS power alone.

We should not frustrate Grace, nor grieve the Holy Spirit. But, if we do and we are His, we can rest assured that He who loves us will Chasten us, discipline us, yes even take our mortal bodies for the sake of the Gospel, but we are already saved from the second death, by the blood of Christ.

God did this WHILE we were still sinners!
